The National Insurance Institute (INS), still advancing with new offerings to its clients in the face of competition, has just made it easier for its 6,000 beneficiaries of workplace injuries to pay their bills.
INS is issuing prepaid Banco Nacional debit cards, up to 700,000 colones monthly. Right now, this method of payment is optional but reflects the reality that such beneficiaries are less mobile and may find it difficult to go to the bank to cash a check.
In the future, MasterCard may be used for other payments on a whole range of insurance policies. Currently INS makes an average of 600 payments daily for labor accident incapacity. INS also reports that it serves some 25,000 workplace mishaps per year.
In the future the payment option will be offered to obligatory auto accident policy holders.
