Prices at the fuel pump went up Tuesday, reflecting rising OPEC prices. Crude has been hovering at around $100 per barrel, reflecting increased demand from at least a partial economic recovery world wide.
The bad news is that even this hike is temporary before a probable additional cost increase in February. As of Tuesday, the price is 608 colones per liter for super, 590 colones per liter for regular (Plus) and 527 for diesel.
(The colon hovers near 500 per dollar on the exchange.) New prices under the ARESEP regulatory agency formula near the end of February is expected to be 621 colones for super, 605 for regular and 544 for diesel. Although this may seem cheap to North Americans, remember that a liter is much less than a gallon.
Price of LPG cooking gas also has risen slightly.
