The 2011 "marchamo," the permit that allows one's car to circulate legally, went on sale this week. But first, make sure you have a valid vehicle inspection from Riteve.
The thing that has changed since last year was the opening of the insurance market to compeition, so going to a National Insurance Institute (INS) outlet isn't mandatory. Financial institutions are also handling the document. Mandatory insurance is included the the marchamo cost.
The only requisite (other than the Riteve inspection) is to present your vehicle's license plate number to one of the 1,233 sales points. But hurry to avoid last minute lines as the Dec. 31 deadline approaches.
If one is stopped after Jan. 1, 2011, without a valid circulation permit his license plates will be confiscated and the vehicle impounded. Information may be obtained at www.ins-cr.com
