The Women's All-star Soccer team eased past Haiti to secure a spot in the semifinals. Both goals in the shutout win were scored by Wendy Acosta, who now has 3 goals in 2 games. The Haitian women gave the Ticas a hard time, pressuring them all over the field. But the Ticas were able to handle the pressure and controlled the ball. However, they were unable to put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, despite creating a number of scoring chances.
Carolina Venegas helped open the scoring, finally, at the start of the second half, with a beautiful assist that allowed Wendy Acosta to score. 7 minutes later, Acosta took advantage of a loose ball in the Haiti area and sealed the deal for the Ticas. After that the Haitian side took control of the game, but were unable to score.
On Monday, the women face host Canada, which will be favored to win -- having a strong side and the home field advantage. The winner will place first in the group and then face a second place finisher from the other group, likely to be an easier rival than the US women's team which is expected to place 1st.
