The Reef Central American Surfing Games 2011 got under way Thursday at the Central Pacific towns of Hermosa and Jaco. Some 80 of the best regional surfers from Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama and Costa Rica will compete Dec. 2-4.
Competition includes an open class as well as ladies, juniors, boys and long board events. The event got under way Thursday with the parade at 4:30 p.m. through the streets of Jaco and the "Sands Ceremony" at the town's central park.
But Friday the competition begins in earnest 7 a/m/-4 p.m. followed by a concert by the Chupacabras band. Saturday sees the same schedule of competition plus the 8 p.m. opening of the tournament's official party featuring the Reef calendar girls at Morgan's Cove in Jaco.
Sunday more competition but ending at 2 p.m. followed by the Aloha Cup Closing Ceremony presentation to the winning team and presentation of medals to winners in individual classes.
