Brown Conducts Anniversary Concert

Gerald Brown, the highly respected director of the Costa Rican National Symphony Orchestra in the 1970s, returned to conduct a gala concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Ministry Of Culture.
The Nov. 2 and 5 concerts brought together a sort of all-star team, 56 musicians from the seven bands and orchestras in the country. A folkloric company, Curubanda, also performed in the show at the National Theater.
According to Marcial Flores, of the ministry's music department, all the music performed has an historic significance the Costa Ricans. among the pieces performed were Sinfonica Fantasia by Julio Fonseca who also performed his original Vals Leda.
The concert also premiered El Chico de Guayabal, a piece composed for clarinet by Victor Hugo Berrocal. Actors Zoraya Manalich and Bernardo Mena narrated the history.
