Whether you're a red-hot chili fancier or have a surefire recipe, you won't want to miss the fifth Annual Atenas Charity Chili Contest in that Central Costa Rican town Feb. 12.
Last year, proceeds from entry of no fewer than 14 cooking teams and 600 hungry attendees pushed the proceeds donated to a home for orphaned, abused or abandoned children's home to 1,700,000 colones, according to organizers.

Office Gemini is planning to host a technology show Feb. 1 and 2 at the Real InterContinental Hotel and Club Tower in San Jose. Topics will include making best use of computers for your office and Cloud technology.
Feb. 1 agenda begins at 6:30 p.m., ends at 8:30 and will include a cocktail reception. Thursday, Feb. 2 will offer the Office Gemini TechEd Forum beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.

ExpoCasa 2012 will offer solutions to those pondering about buying a new home or simply redecorating the old one. (We warn you, however, that what you might see may make you dissatisfied with your current castle.)
The 10th edition of the show will be held Jan. 25-29 at Centro de Eventos Pedregal in San Antonio de Belen. The ExpoCasa of last year drew 30,000 visitors and this year 50 home builders will be on hand to show their wares.
Jaco Theater Presents New Play

Coming hard on the heels of the first success of their inaugural season, (A Christmas Carol last December) Teatro Jaco is presenting its second production, 17 Border Crossings.
The play comes directly from Madrid at the start of its world tour and runs Jan. 19-29, Thursday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The play is to be presented at Jaco Theater in the Oceans Center Jaco on Ave. Pastor Diaz at Jaco Beach.
Job Fair Prepared for February

A three-day job fair is being prepared for the old customs (Aduana) building in Barrio Aranjuez in downtown San Jose. The sponsor, the Coalition for Development Incentives (CINDE), hopes to place a thousand workers in private enterprise posts.
Some 25 companies will be looking for employees during sessions on February 10th-12th sessions. As usual, a resume is required. Save

The Reef Central American Surfing Games 2011 got under way Thursday at the Central Pacific towns of Hermosa and Jaco. Some 80 of the best regional surfers from Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama and Costa Rica will compete Dec. 2-4.
Competition includes an open class as well as ladies, juniors, boys and long board events. The event got under way Thursday with the parade at 4:30 p.m. through the streets of Jaco and the "Sands Ceremony" at the town's central park.

Here's a show that's bound to be a howling success: The Tico Times reported this week that Cesar Milan, the cult favorite of dog lovers and canine trainer of the stars, will be in this country Jan. 28. The show is set for the National Stadium.
The popular TV performer will hand out tips on dog training and undoing of Fido's bad habits. His TV show, "Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan" is a longtime favorite in the U.S. on Nat Geo Wild and Animal Planet here.

Two lectures on modern business and technology for small business owners and creative entrepreneurs are slated for Thursday, Dec. 1. In the first, Carlos Cortez will speak from 9 a.m. to noon in the Sala de Videoconferencias at Universidad Latina on the creativity of the youth in this country.
Cortez's second conference will cover seven ways to use social media for company and individual positioning. This will be held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the Colegio de Abogados. Both conferences are free.
