Do you own property in Costa Rica but don’t know the difference between a catastro and a catastrofe? Take heart because the Costa Rica National Registry (that registers and archives all property transactions) has a Web site in English now, loaded with excellent data.
The Web site for the language-challenged English-speaker gives an overview of the registry’s function, guideline, rules, rates and even a glossary of Spanish terms, which will help you distinguish between hipoteca (mortgage) and hipertension (hypertension, such as you might suffer from trying to understand Spanish real estate terminology).
Some intricate tasks such as checking property titles must still be done in Spanish, the country’s legal tongue, it will satisfy some crying needs, such as giving important contacts, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for various services—real estate registry, legal land and legal entities registry.
